This year’s Willy Brandt Lecture is delivered by Věra Jourová, Vice-President of the European Commission and EU Commissioner for Values ​​and Transparency. She deals with the protection of democracy, the rule of law, media pluralism and the fight against disinformation. From 2014 to 2019, the Czech politician was EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumer Protection and Gender Equality.

The foundation invites outstanding personalities from politics, science, business and culture to deliver the Willy Brandt Lecture in Berlin. In the lecture, in the spirit of Willy Brandt, they take up topics that are of central importance to our understanding of history and the shaping of our present and future.

Previous speakers included the historian Adam Tooze, the executive director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), Helena Fihn, the environmental activist Naomi Klein, the Internet pioneer Jaron Lanier and the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

Lecture in English with simultaneous translation. A small reception will follow.
