After initial contacts in the early 1940s, Willy Brandt developed close and friendly relations with the USA after the war. For the Governing Mayor of Berlin and the Federal Chancellor in Bonn, the partnership with the United States of America was the indispensable basis of his foreign policy actions. Despite some tensions with various US governments and despite the criticism that he leveled at the USA, particularly as an “elder statesman”, Brandt almost always had a positive image of America.

We are pleased to present our traveling exhibition “Willy Brandt 1913-1992. A Life for Freedom, Peace and Reconciliation between Nations” will be a guest in the USA from February 12th: connections to Marquette University in Milwaukee have existed since 2001, when the foundation in Berlin held one of its largest international conferences on the topic “Global Governance”.

The exhibition will have its grand opening at Marquette University on February 12 at 5 p.m. (CST). Dean Timothy Hanley and our director Wolfram Hoppenstedt will speak on this occasion, who will also offer students and citizens of Milwaukee, many of whom have German roots, a program of exhibition tours and lectures over two days.

Opening hours:
daily from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
